Stanners Vineyard 2019 Cabernet Franc
The grapes for this Cabernet Franc wine were from a single vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula. The cooler growing season of 2019 gave grapes with lower sugar levels and higher acidity and, with the normal late ripening of Cabernet Franc, came in cold and took a long time to warm up. So the cold soak and cool fermentation lasted for the unusually long time of 48 days, which helped to bring out fruit flavours and give softer tannins. The wine was aged in mostly older French oak barrels for 13 months and is unfiltered.
This is a lighter bodied Cabernet Franc with lovely bright cherry and blackberry flavours combined with balanced acidity and soft tannins, giving a smooth clean entry and a long finish. Drink now through 2027.
